It’s easy to associate Newport Beach with the gated communities and stylish homes typical of Southern California, but it’s much more diverse than that. You can find a Newport Beach house in just about any style and setting, from small, sleek studios with unobstructed views to sprawling mansions just steps from the beach. And as is always the case in real estate, location plays a big role in a homeowner’s decision. If you’re new to Newport Beach, here are some of the neighborhoods worth checking out.

Newport Coast

Home to celebrities and successful businessmen, Newport Coast is a recent addition to Newport Beach, having been annexed just in 2001. Homes are mostly large single-family properties, although there are several apartments and ocean-view condos as well. Well-kept lawns and tree-lined streets add to the appeal of the community. This is the perfect place if you’re looking for a Newport Beach house that’s sheltered from the buzz of the city, but still close to the beach and downtown areas.

Irvine Real Estate

Irvine is a master-planned city located in Orange County, California. It is surrounded by the cities of Tustin, Santa Ana, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Costa Mesa, and Newport Beach. Irvine Real Esate designed by architect William Pereira as a new campus for the University of California, along with a surrounding town of about 50,000 residents.

Harbor Ridge

Harbor Ridge is a 170-acre private development located on top of a knoll, a location that affords unparalleled views of the Pacific, Palos Verdes, Catalina Island, and the Saddleback Mountains. This has made it a prime spot for properties with a view. It’s also well known for its spacious homes—the typical Newport Beach House offers over 4,000 square feet of living space and can be as large as 10,000 square feet.

Balboa Island

Linked to the rest of Newport by a two-lane bridge, Balboa Island is one of the priciest and most exclusive areas of the city. A two-bedroom Newport Beach house can cost as much as $3 million, although recent market slowdowns have slightly affected pricing. At only 0.2 square miles and a population of about 3,000, it’s a pretty dense area, but the lively main roads and numerous bars and restaurants make it ideal for buying vacation homes.
